CatSkill is an interactive
multimedia product for Windows and Macintosh, designed to teach the use
of Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules 2nd Edition (AACR2R) and MARC 21 coding.
The course comprises 25
interactive modules. The first six modules include
introductions to the course itself, the catalog and its various forms,
the bibliographic record, the International Standard Bibliographic Description
(ISBD), the structure of AACR2R and the MARC record. Modules 7 - 14 deal
with the eight areas of bibliographic description in AACR2R Part I. (Each
module integrates learning about monographs, serials and nonbook materials) Modules 14 - 23 deal with
AACR2R Part II, covering access points and added entries, headings for
personal names, geographic entities, corporate bodies and uniform titles,
and references. Module 25 deals with the
effects of format integration on the MARC format. CatSkill has been produced
for use in library courses in colleges and universities, and for on-the-job
training, for beginning catalogers and more experienced catalogers wanting
to refresh their knowledge and skills. CatSkill contains 25-30 hours of
instruction. Version 3 is fully revised.
It uses the 2002 amendments of AACR2R and up-to-date MARC 21 codes. Click
